Spring Greetings from Portland, Oregon! Lisa here, just back from a 9-day mid-Atlantic tour with Le Bruit (huge fun, more about that later) and gearing up for our next one, a 3-day mini-tour of the New York City region. It’s our first time making music in the Big Apple and we are stoked!

So here’s the scoop (details and links for tickets/registration on the Homepage calendar):

THURSDAY, April 9: Le Bruit will do a house concert in Suffern, NY (about a half-hour from White Plains, NY and less than an hour from Newark, NJ and Norwalk, CT). We’ll have ace step dancer Pierre Chartrand along with us, so expect some amazing step-dancing in the show, as well as a few old-time tunes with our hosts Sue Sterngold, Mike Resnik, and Steve Arkin. Potluck at 6pm, concert at 7:30pm, jam afterwards–yee ha!

943075_10151592970618967_2026434727_nFRIDAY, April 10: We’re teaming up with ace step dancer and caller Pierre Chartrand to do a concert set AND dance at Roulette, in downtown Brooklyn, NY.  Bring your dancing shoes, or just have a seat and enjoy the music! Concert starts at 8pm. If you can’t make our concert, our friends from Le Vent du Nord will be at Roulette on Saturday!

SATURDAY MORNING, April 11: André, Normand, and I will be doing 9-11am workshops at Jalopy Theatre and School of Music (downtown Brooklyn, NY). Fiddle, accordion, and back-up guitar…I’ll be happy to have other melody instruments in my workshop. We’ll teach by ear and hand out some sheet music and chord sheets. A great opportunity for hands-on ramping up your French-Canadian repertory and Quebec stylings!

That’s about it for the road until late June, when Le Bruit will be on staff for the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, WA (June 28-July 5, 2015). In late August, we’ll be staffing at the Souches à l’oreille trad music camp in beautiful Kamouraska, Quebec (run by Rachel Aucoin and Sabin Jacques of Tidal Wave).

We hope to do a northern New England tour August 29-September 6, starting at the University of Maine at Fort Kent and ending at the New World Festival in Randolph, VT. if you live in Maine, Vermont or the Saratoga Springs region of New York and would like to sponsor a house concert (or have other possibilities in mind), please give us a shout!

Thanks,

Lisa

Here’s a photo from our recent mid-Atlantic tour, taken at Joanie Blanton’s wonderful Upper Potomac Spring Music Week-end. We did 10 hours of workshops with these folks and man were they a fun group!
